What’s new here
Each skill is a small markdown file covering one job: grilling you before you write code, running a red-green-refactor TDD loop, diagnosing a hard bug, writing a spec, or running a code review. With the npx installer you choose which skills to install; the Claude Code plugin installs the whole pack, and you can ignore what you do not use. The skills are split into user-invoked (you type /grill-with-docs) and model-invoked (the agent reaches for /tdd when it fits). The README says user-invoked skills orchestrate and model-invoked skills hold the reusable discipline.
What it does
The repo ships two groups of skills.
Engineering skills cover the full coding loop:
/grill-with-docsinterviews you about a change and builds aGLOSSARY.mdand ADRs for shared terminology/tdddrives a red-green-refactor cycle, one vertical slice at a time/diagnosing-bugsgates bug work through a disciplined feedback loop: reproduce, minimise, hypothesise, instrument, fix, regression-test/to-spec,/to-tickets,/implement,/implement-spec, and/wayfinderhandle planning and execution of larger chunks of work/improve-codebase-architecturescans a codebase for deepening opportunities and produces an HTML report/code-reviewruns a two-axis review (coding standards and spec fidelity) using parallel sub-agents
Productivity skills are general workflow tools, not code-specific: /grill-me for non-code decisions, /handoff to compact a session for the next agent, /teach for multi-session learning, and /wait-what to get the agent to re-explain something that didn’t land.
All skills work with any model. Installation is native for Claude Code, Codex, and GitHub Copilot (plugin marketplace), manual for Gemini CLI, and available for other agents via npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills.
Who it’s for
Engineers who use Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, or similar agents daily and want disciplined practices baked into their workflow, not handed to a framework. The skills assume you know what you’re doing and want to stay in control. As the README puts it, approaches that own the process “take away your control and make bugs in the process hard to resolve.”
Try it
Claude Code:
claude plugin install mattpocock-skills@claude-plugins-officialCodex:
codex plugin marketplace add mattpocock/skills
codex plugin add mattpocock-skills@mattpocockAny other agent:
npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills -a <agent> # cursor, opencode, devin, windsurf, amp, pi; omit -a to chooseWith the npx route, include setup-matt-pocock-skills when the installer asks which skills to take, and pick one install route per agent, because installing both gives you every skill twice. After installing, run /setup-matt-pocock-skills once per repo to configure your issue tracker, triage labels, and docs location.
