What’s new here
This repo is based on Patrick Gunkel’s Ideonomy and turns it into a runnable TypeScript engine with 28 named lenses, profile-based auto-selection, lens chaining, cross-lens synthesis, and persistent sessions.
What it does
You give it a problem statement. It selects a subset of lenses from 28 reasoning divisions (ANALOGIES, INVERSIONS, FIRST PRINCIPLES, PARADOXES, and so on) and generates structured questions you can work through. It does not produce answers.
The main operations:
reason: runs a problem through a profile’s lenses, with optional synthesisdrill: expands a single division with more sub-questions and cross-domain promptschain: feeds the output of one lens into another, producing bridge insightssynthesize: scans across active lenses for tensions, convergences, and surprisessession: stores all of the above as JSON under~/.ideonomy/sessions/so you can return to a thread
Profiles (technical, creative, strategic, ethical, diagnostic, interpersonal, philosophical, general) are auto-selected from problem keywords or set explicitly. Relevance scoring uses keyword matching to surface the most applicable cross-domain prompts for a given input.
Who it’s for
Engineers or researchers who use AI agents for problem-framing and want a structured alternative to open-ended brainstorming prompts. Also useful as a library dependency for teams building reasoning tools on top of TypeScript.
Try it
npm install -g @clawdactual/ideonomy-engine# Basic reasoning (auto-selects profile based on problem keywords)
ideonomy reason "Your problem statement here"
# With synthesis (tensions, convergences, surprises)
ideonomy reason --synthesize "How can AI agents collaborate?"
# Drill deeper into one lens
ideonomy drill ANALOGIES "What is creativity?"
# Chain two lenses
ideonomy chain ANALOGIES PARADOXES "How does memory work?"
# Persistent session
ideonomy session create "How can AI agents collaborate?"
ideonomy reason --session a1b2c3d4 "How can AI agents collaborate?"Requires Node.js >= 22. To run from source, clone the repo and run npm install, then prefix commands with npx tsx src/index.ts instead of ideonomy.
