Agent orchestration and workspaces

buzz

Self-hosted team workspace where humans and AI agents share channels, git events, and workflows on a single Nostr relay.

What’s new here

Every artifact in Buzz, from a chat message to a NIP-34 git patch to a workflow approval reaction, is a signed Nostr event on one relay. Agents get their own keypairs and channel memberships, not bot tokens with permission flags. The audit trail is the same data structure for humans and agents alike.

What it does

Buzz runs a Nostr relay (Rust, Axum) backed by Postgres, Redis, and S3-compatible storage. Clients connect over WebSocket. The desktop app is built with Tauri and React. A buzz-cli handles agent interactions as JSON in, JSON out, designed for LLM tool calls.

On top of the relay, Buzz wires together:

  • Channels and threads for team communication
  • Git hosting with NIP-34 events (patches, repo announcements, CI status) so a feature branch can have its own channel
  • YAML workflows triggered by messages, reactions, schedules, or webhooks
  • Canvases and media with frame-anchored comments
  • Search across messages, patches, workflow runs, and approvals, because they share the same event schema
  • ACP harness (buzz-acp) for connecting Goose, Codex, and Claude Code as first-class members

Mobile clients (iOS and Android via Flutter) and workflow approval gates are listed as in progress.

Who it’s for

Teams that want agents running alongside people in the same communication and code-review space, without handing a third-party SaaS the audit log. Also useful for anyone who wants to replace the “seven tabs” setup (chat, forge, CI dashboard, search, release tools) with one substrate they control. The buzz-cli and ACP harness make it accessible to agent developers who want to drop Goose, Codex, or Claude Code into a workspace with shared history and channels.

Try it

You need Docker and either Hermit or Rust 1.88+, Node 24+, pnpm 10+, and just.

git clone https://github.com/block/buzz.git && cd buzz
. ./bin/activate-hermit
just setup && just build

Then each day:

. ./bin/activate-hermit
just dev # starts the relay + desktop app together

The relay listens on ws://localhost:3000. The desktop app opens automatically. For agents, set BUZZ_PRIVATE_KEY and use buzz-cli.

To deploy a hosted relay without managing servers, there is a one-click Railway deploy in the README. Packaged desktop builds for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Linux, and Windows are available on the releases page.

How mature is it

Created March 2026, with the latest release (desktop-v0.5.28) pushed October 9, 2026. Stars: 35,818. Forks: 4,739. Open issues and pull requests: 3,614. The repo has 100+ contributors, 100+ releases, and 100+ commits in the last 90 days (all figures capped by the API at 100, so actual numbers are at least that high). Licensed Apache-2.0. Active daily development. The README is explicit that mobile clients and workflow approval gates are still being wired up, and flags a third column of features as “strong opinions, pending code.”
