What’s new here
This is an AWS-samples collection targeting Claude specifically. It covers prompt engineering, tool use with complex schemas, PDF knowledge bases with citations and a live Streamlit playground.
What it does
The README lists notebooks, workshops and demos. Notebooks under /cookbooks show API patterns for Claude on AWS. Demos are runnable apps: a Streamlit multimodal playground (supports Claude 3.5), a tools chatbot, a metaprompt generator, a classification integration with Intercom and a PDF knowledge base that surfaces citations. Workshops link out to a separate prompt-engineering repo. The repo also has directories on AgentCore, Claude Code and Cowork that the README does not list.
One important note from the README: Amazon Bedrock Agents was renamed “Bedrock Agents Classic” and moved to maintenance mode on June 30, 2026. New customers are blocked from creating Bedrock Agents resources from July 30, 2026. The successor is Amazon Bedrock AgentCore (GA since October 2025). The README asks readers to migrate existing agent workloads.
Who it’s for
AWS developers who want working examples of Claude rather than documentation prose. Useful when you need a starting point for a specific task: function calling with a complex schema, a PDF knowledge base with citations or a quick internal chat UI.
Try it
The README does not provide a top-level install command. Each demo has its own README. Start with the cookbook index:
git clone https://github.com/aws-samples/anthropic-on-aws
cd anthropic-on-aws/cookbooks
Then open a notebook there, or go back up and follow the README.md inside the demo folder you want to run, such as metaprompt-generator.
How mature is it
431 stars, 117 forks, 28 contributors. The repo has been active since May 2024 and pushed as recently as October 9, 2026. Releases are capped at 100+, latest tagged v0.0.102 on July 3, 2026. Commits in the last 90 days are also capped at 100+, so the pace is high. 15 open issues and pull requests. Licensed MIT-0, the AWS no-attribution variant of MIT.
