I love reading about the history of fonts and design systems. This article is a really deep dive into the back stories of several Futura-like fonts that all came out in the period between WWI and WWII.

Check it out, and know that I am using Futura-PT on my current project because it supports almost the entire Latin Extended A character set. So Hungarian, French, Czech and all points in between are supported.
For normal English sites and content, many of the other Futuras would work.
